Facebook Accounts Shutting down over Verbiage?

                                       facebook image

Social Media Verbiage

After receiving an email from hubze.com, regarding Facebook branding rules, I became unnerved.  My particular interest was their reference

Facebook should be capitalized.

Do not use Facebook as a verb.

OK.  I get it.  We won’t be facebooking later!  However, how much fun have we had with twitter and all the wordage’s that have evolved from it!  We created a new language that is still developing.  Don’t worry FB we understand some sites are a democracy – the people really leading the change and others we adapt because it is worth it.  (Oops I abbreviated – can we do that?)

Two experiences happened to me this week where Facebook rules came into play.  First, I tried to advertise on Facebook and I had a cool logo with Facebook emulated behind it.  Rejected!  Facebook can represent Facebook.

Secondly, I attempted to post an event with a Facebook link on another Facebook page – Rejected!

Simple Grammital Social Media Experiment

I thought I would try a simple experiment in Microsoft Word to see if their dictionary was keeping up with social media.

I am working on twitter.  I am working on Twitter.  – It accepts it as a proper noun.

I am working on facebook.  Corrected it is (face book).  I am working on Facebook. – nope

I am working on foursquare.  I am working on Foursquare.  Good!

I am working on linkedin.  Corrected it is (LinkedIn).

I am working on youtube.  Corrected it is (YouTube).

Keep Googling!

Formally, the Chicago Manual of Style believe that the word “Internet” should be capitalized, however, many newspapers are using it in the lower case “internet” same as television or radio.

Google began as a transitive verb “to google.”  In 1998 the founder, Larry Page, even wrote “keep googling!”  Verb.

Companies are Proper Nouns

After reviewing many websites on the subject, it appears most of the social media sites would like to be seen as the million/billion dollar businesses they have built. They all of headquarters and just because most of us do not work there does not mean the same rules of grammar 101.   Companies are proper nouns:  Pepsi, Dairy Queen, Facebook and YouTube.

Will Facebook Shut Your Site Down?

Hubze.com does not believe so, however, I would not be surprised if one day they sucked all the lower case facebooks from everywhere they can reach their programming arms and replace them with Capital Facebooks!

Midnight Prelaunch Interview with BundlePost’s Robert Caruso

 A SOCIAL CONTENT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

Robert responded to my following him on twitter about two months ago.  He stood out from the crowd because he sent me a direct message that said ”Show me something edgy.”  My branding is Social Media Strategist w/Edge.  There began our introduction.

I checked him out and was promptly taken to BundlePost.com.  At first glance it looked too simple to be something so relevant.

Bundlepost came up again as I was searching for a Customer Relationship Manangent System.  I kept thinking, “What is it?”  I play around with many applications.  Was it another Hootsuite or Tweetdeck?  How about Tweetbig or Tweepi (Robert mentioned he had never heard of Tweetbig or Tweepi by the way.)

MY MIDNIGHT INTERVIEW.  The BundlePost Boys were up late working and I had a chance to explore the excitement of a pre-launch, via Skype.  I video taped my sneak-peak.  That will come up later!

You will be happy to know BundlePost is one of a kind.  Developed by a professional Social Media Strategist who became so successful he had to find a way to automate the transferring of information.  It was the largest segment of human intensive work for his clients.

WHAT YOU WILL FIND WHEN YOU LOGIN.

First of all, you will manage your Folders on the Dashboard.  The Dashboard has a nice light yellow tint to it with five boxes across the top.  The boxes included your Feed Channels, My Social Content, My Hashtags, Bulk Scheduling, Follow Friday Lists.

FEED CHANNELS  In business, many of us take advantage of Google Alerts.  Once set up they alert us on up-to-date information in our industry.  In Social Media we take it future by distributing the latest information in our fields to our friends/customers/followers.  For example, I have a customer @fitnessbydzyne who sells Kangoo Boots.  I watch for trends around the world regarding these cool bouncing boots.  Normally, when something interesting comes up I have to copy and paste a link into Hootsuite and distribute it to Facebook and Twitter.  Feed Channels allows you to copy large amounts of content from Google Alerts and place it into your folder in an email-type way (that is how it looks).   This is where it starts.

MY SOCIAL CONTENT My Social Content allows room for my own comments I would add to the feeds I am going to publish regarding Kangoo Boots throughout the day.  You can easily combine them with the Google Alerts.

MY HASHTAGS My Hashtags takes BundlePost to a new generation.  Hashtags are critical to your information being picked up.  #Kangoo #Fitness #Pilates are three of the hashtags I use for my client.  There is a folder to keep track of all you hashtags for each client.  Please watch the video I will post later, because with BundlePost there is a way to add your hashtags to all the feeds at once.  Big time saver.

BULK SCHEDULING In an amazingly easy fashion, one can organize the order and time for each feed.

FOLLOW FRIDAY Finally, there is a Follow Friday Folder to keep track of all the people you want to follow for each client.  This is incredible information for keeping your client real and making them show client appreciation on twitter.

DISTRIBUTION Once the feeds are managed to perfection, they will be bundled into a CSV file 50 posts at a time.  From there Hootsuite.com allows bulk uploads to be distributed to all the different locations linked to Hootsuite.

THERE’S MORE!!!  Robert saw how human intensive the Social Media Industry was and wanted something to lessen the administrative side of it.  However, he was clear even though BundlePost automates some functions and makes it easier; he still created it

Where eyeballs are on the posts.

There is a team of six working on the development and it took them less than a year for its creation.  Robert said the hardest part was how to “conceptualize it all.”  There are several Patents Pending and several hundred people have signed up awaiting the launch on Monday, February 28, 2011.

All the Best!

MY EXPERIENCE WITH PETE OLSEN

Pete Olsen, The Twitter Guru, can certainly call himself that with over 170,000 followers.

Our twitter connection began when I received a DM: “Thanks for the follow! Please LIKE my Facebook page at http://t.co/2hWDl8b to learn how to explode your Twitter following!”  I think it was the words “explode your twitter following” that lured me in.

I checked out all his information.  He was from Montana (where I used to live) and there was a Montana phone number listed on his twitter home page!

(406)250-9553 Pete Olsen’s Phone Number

“It will probably direct me to another country but I’ll call,” I thought.  I received a voice mail and left a message just to see what would happen.

Would you believe it?  Pete Olsen called me back within 15 minutes.  Who does that any more?

This phone call changed my twitter world forever.  Overnight.

7 Twitter Truths by Pete Olsen

  1. Stop thinking too hard about twitter.  Don’t over analyze it.
  2. Make sure to respond to all your @’s.
  3. Try to make one new twitter friend a day.  Someone who tweets something of interest to you.
  4. Ask people questions.  People love that.
  5. Use people’s names (in a tweet) and bring them into the conversation.
  6. Until you reach 2000 followers you have twitter handcuffs on.  You can only be following so many extra people before twitter halts you.
  7. After 2000 it follows the 10% rule.  You can follow 10% more than follow you.

THERE’S MORE!

I asked Pete, “What applications do you use?”  He replied,

I do it all by hand.  It’s me doing it and I do it all day long.

Finally, I asked “How do you keep track of everybody and all you have to do?  Which program do you use.”  He laughed and said,

Here’s the secret.  You ready?  A Spiral Notebook!

There you have it.  Building a twitter empire all the way from Kalispell, Montana.  Contact @PeteOlsen because there’s plenty of room at the top of twitter and he can certainly help you get there!  Watch real fans of Pete Olsen I found on YouTube down below!  It really works.

Foursquare: Best Social Media $ Saving Tip

Foursquare

FOURSQAURE:  GAMING FOR REAL LIFE

Monday, I head out to have my nails done.  I sit there and play with my apps and finally check out foursquare again.  The nail lady asks me, “What are you doing.”  I explain to her that I am adding her store to an application and telling all my friends that she is doing my nails.  —- I had the longest massage ever!

Tuesday, My haircut.  Same thing.  Free samples & free foot soaking.  I can’t believe it!  All of a sudden after I explain how I am using and promoting the company with foursquare the tide is turning.  The customer is actually being serviced well.  How nice.

Wednesday, my sandwich was wrong because the bacon was undercooked.  It was cool, I just wanted to exchange it.  I thought they were going to have a heart attack!  When I went in, I showed them how I was adding them to foursquare so I could become Mayor!  Being Mayor on Foursquare has power behind it!

Thursday, at the mall even Starbucks was nicer.  I didn’t receive anything free but it really felt like the tides were turning.  I wasn’t ignored anymore.

WRAPUP

Foursquare can be downloaded onto almost any phone.  It is a type of game where you sign into different locations and earn points.  I really like where this is going.  Furthermore, it appears to really help search engine optimization for customers because I notice companies listed in foursquare coming up now.

Enjoy my best social media tip of the day!

Why Do People Need to Hire a Social Media Strategist?

Business owners really seem to understand Social Media is the way to go these days.  I say this because people are always excited to talk to me and work is coming my way rather fast.  There is buzz everywhere.

Last night I went to Barnes and Noble and I found the new Social Media book for Dummies.  The big yellow and black book explores the basics of the main social media outlets in 818 pages!

I am a business owner and developer before a social media consultant so I understand the limited time constraints of learning an entire new technology that never ends.

You begin with a website and next they tell you about search engine optimization.  You understand that you want to be found when people search for you so you trust your web developer to do some tricks.  After a year, you sigh, wondering what business came from where – maybe you received a printout or two you don’t quite understand or believe.

Then comes facebook.  Well, you signed up for it at some point but never really used it much although it was kind of fun to find buddies locate you.

Now, somehow it’s important to use it for your business?  Plus, you need to use your phone in some smart way?  This twitter thing – is that just for Hollywood people or kids?  And what is youtube exactly?

The exciting news is  our company has most of it figured out and the majority of it is free!  It’s just our time involved and we work FAST!  As a business owner, I have weeded out what works, what wastes time, and how to stream-line work.  It is a very exciting time for customers, business owners and new ideas.

Take a deep breath…your future customers are waiting in anticipation.

All the Best

SOCIAL MEDIA JUNKIE – A DAY IN THE LIFE OF TWITTER, FACEBOOK, LINKEDIN, TUMBLR, BLOGGING AND MORE!

11:10 am

  • Check email – It’s all organized into outlook. I probably need to switch to gmail, however my spouse works for Microsoft. I balance what we call “The Matrix.” Microsoft vs. everything else. I have a tilt phone, etc.

11:30 am

  • Orders are out: A tea company for moms. Only a couple of orders came in. It’s Sunday morning.
  • It works well sending directions for the tea from Facebook Notes. Then the customers are connected right away to Facebook.
  • I take a look once again at “groups.” I’m sure I’ll have one by the end of the weekend.

11:40 am

  • Six new twitter friends. I like that. Reply to them later.

11:50 am

  • Look at hootsuite.com and read messages.

Noon

  • Main messages are taken care of and I can spend time with family.

Taking a Break

4:30

  • Write an outline for new blog.

5:00

  • Print out a new business idea that my daughter came up with to see if it could work. I love it when she has business ideas! Except the lemonade stand. I’m unsupportive on that one – it seem overdone.

Taking another Break

9:30

  • I’m back to twitter business. Follow leads. Meet & Greet.

10:00

  • Check out Gmail. I think I will have to set up an account. Oh! I already have one, of course for my advertising. However, to develop Gmail to the point where I don’t need Outlook is kind of scary.
  • I need to open multiple twitter accounts for my multiple businesses and I’m playing with tumblr.com and need more email accounts.
  • Also, to filter the billion social media platforms I’m using.
  • It appears I’m being hindered on Facebook because I’m using the same Email account.

10:45

  • Check to see if I was accepted on Ning developers site. I need some answers! (No, I’m not.)
  • I was accepted into two new online groups I might enjoy. Still seeking groups online where I feel I can truly “belong” and participate.

11-11:45

  • I need to kick someone off linkedin.com which I do. Get wrapped up in setting up my profile.
  • Connect with 25+ people. Have to be careful on linkedin because you actually have to “know them” somehow.

11:45

  • Decide to blog about my life and see how it compares to yours??? Are you a social media junkie throughout the day? How do we compare?
