What is Edgy Social Media?

Read More What is Edgy Social Media?

My life has always been a little edgy and full of a bit of heresy.   You might as well know that up front.  Ever since I wanted to open a coffeehouse at age 24 in Miami, which was unheard of, I believed All Things Were Possible.  A game called life.  I loved the coffeehouse and everyone that was a part of it.

At Edgy Social Media, I track what is happening with social patterns/trends in Fashion, Celebrities, Politics, Science, Technology and apply it to businesses.   Using measuring tools to track and chart results.  I love meeting new people that push the boundaries, live with passion and create new technologies.  Edddgggggggggeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee all the way!

The second part of Edgy Social Media is my urban-style content that reaches out to the consumer.  My goal is make it readable not super technical.  Cutting Edge: Sleek w/urban personality.

I live my life with excitement, passion, energy, late-night hours, early morning hours, hard work, dedication, endurance, perseverance, patience, love, respect and everything else you could want in a start-up technology company.

I am so excited to be in this place in history.    There is so much to look forward to – our future is bright!

This is where my part-tech-geek-chic comes out:

Tips from Mari Smith’s Inner Circle

I am a part of Mari Smith’s Inner Circle on Facebook.  We go to monthly classes and the content and engagement is just incredible.  The content excites me and so I’m passing it on.  Like this:

Jeanne Kugler Willson (Owner/Director at Markbeech Marketing)Anyone have recommendations for online companies where you can keep your passwords safe?
There were many responses and just about everyone agreed with Mari!

Mari Smith I’m on a Mac – I use 1Password and also LastPass. I used RoboForm for years before that when I was on a PC. :) Password managers are a must these days! I always say if you can remember your password for any login, it’s not cryptic enough!

Love it!

Twitter Humor

Gertie

Twitter addict receives phone call from his doctor.

The doctor says, “I have some good news and some bad news.”

Twitter addict, “OK, give me the good news first.”

The doctor says, “The good news is, you’ve got only 24 more hours to live.”

Twitter addict, “Oh no! If that’s the good news, then what’s the bad news?”

The doctor says, “The bad news is, Twitter is down.”

Laughter is good for the soul.

FACEBOOK PRIVACY – This is the WHY, People!

There is a quote that says

If you don’t know the “why”, the “how” doesn’t matter.

Perhaps you haven’t taken the step to understand your Privacy Rights on Facebook.  Here is your WHY!  Last night around midnight, Steve Yegge, a Google engineer, posted on Google+ (a social network similar to Facebook) what he meant for his fellow co-workers.  It was a late night rambling about the company.   Read Ramble.

STEVE YEGGE

My Late Night Rambling

There are many late night rambles it would fun to post, but I try not to because I represent many different types of companies.  Having an edgy company does not mean dark and gloomy.  It means finding ways for companies to standout in an atmosphere where everyone is talking and people have very little time.  If we can create that one second interest that captures peoples attention – not to scam them but because there is something so real, exciting and authentic, that’s Edgy Social Media.  Love it.  LOVE IT!!!

According to Steve Yegge, Google+  has been supportive.  Not all companies are like this.   That’s why you should take your time, review the past two blogs and be on the watch for my new blog called Privacy:  Posts.

Facebook Privacy is Your Right – LISTS

Read More Facebook Privacy is Your Right – LISTS

Right now I am loving lists.  My lists are not completely organized, however, I have added my 10 closest friends to the Close Friends List.   What is fabulous about Close Friends Lists is you will receive every message or post your friends send.  Many of my close friends only post once in a while and I miss it.  I feel bad for missing it.  They call and say did you see the picture of my son or the post of my upcoming wedding – I missed it!  Not anymore.

1 1/2 FUNNY NEWS VIDEO ON FACEBOOK CHANGES  (might take a second for the video to load)

Here are the details on lists:

  • The changes that appear on this will include smart lists
  • Two new lists (close friends and acquaintances), and
  • haring contents to list.
  • The smart lists will automatically be creating lists for cities, work, family, and school. You can use this feature to know what is happening in the surrounding area and share with local friends without reaching out to those in outer cities. It narrows the relations down to only those whom you are close to based on criteria and can limit those who are unknown to you.
  • The major upgrade on the friends list is meant to make it better for the users.
There will be an entire blog on posting, however, lists are incredibly relevant because you can post just to people in certain lists.  I like this because I can send all the pictures of my daughter to people in my family.  However, save only certain photos to everyone.

Facebook Privacy is Your Right! Subscribe Button

Read More Facebook Privacy is Your Right! Subscribe Button

Many people are nervous with all the Facebook changes, including myself.  Privacy is a big concern.  I personally know five people that have deleted their Facebook account.  Right now, my subscribe button is turned off and only friends can see what I am doing on Facebook.  Is it the same for you?

It is not a race, so to my friends, extended friends (as Facebook calls them) and everyone else concerned about their privacy, let’s just take our time and take one step per blog and see how much privacy you want to  let go of.  I will even tell you some behind the scene truths about your privacy rights as we go along.

WATCH

The Subscribe Button

The subscribe button allows you to be able to follow public updates regardless of whether you are a Facebook friend or not. It is meant to give you more control on your account and on your news feeds. It comes alongside the message and poke button on Facebook profile. It will enable you to get public feeds on someone whom you are not a friend to if you wish to get access to their public status updates. This feature is optional as you may choose to subscribe or to turn off the button on your profile if you do not want to gain any subscribers.

These changes are expected to enhance the connection that people have through the social network and they are some of the major changes that have come up recently on the Facebook platform.

Behind the Scenes

I am a concerned about your privacy if you are concerned about your privacy.  If you have always had a public Facebook page then privacy is not an issue for you.  However, if you need to keep your personal life on Facebook PRIVATE, for any number of indiscretions or perhaps you are like me, and you are not sure you want to share pictures of your children with the rest of the world.  Whatever it may be, you have a right to click the SUBSCRIBE button off.

The subscribe button is one more marketing channel.  If you have 20 people waiting to be your friend on your personal profile, it may be a fantastic option for them to subscribe to your update.  However, you should know what posts are private and what are public.  From a marketers perspective, we now have:  Facebook Fans, Friends and Subscribers.  Even with your subscribe button turned OFF, you still may subscribe to other people you are interested in.

Privacy is your right!
