The women’s icon, Oprah Winfrey – the famous host, has joined this website due to its wonderful style. She liked the idea of Pinterest – a virtual pin board. She said, Pinterest is website which looks like a teen age girl’s bedroom – where a girl cuts her favorite magazine pictures and put on the wall.

Oprah Winfrey is one of the most popular personalities on the earth. She has a tribe there, more than 12,000 followers. She is offering great buying prices – under $100. There are great buys in great prices, even the buys are not of her personal brands. She should do the same thing with the books, because which book Oprah recommends becomes best seller rapidly.

On the Pinterest, she is not promoting her brand (MISTAKE), but she is sharing the things with people that can make their lives healthy and simple. So, don’t forget to see Oprah’s page, whenever you visit this website.

As the President, Obama hooked up to this new social networking site, he has pinned his family chili recipe on Pinterest. However, this recipe has got mixed reviews. Notable pins from Obama’s are photos from The White House, a shirt reads “Health reform are still a BFD”, family chilli recipe and cup cakes. There are 75 pins in total and Obama has over 13,000 followers.

The twitter account of President Obama tweeted “Organizers, infographics, murals, and cake — now pinning all of the above for #Obama2012 on Pinterest”.

On Pinterest majority of users are youngsters and females. During the last election, Obama has earned 56 percent female vote. He has find social media a great way to connect with his voters. Many political campaigns are targeting to join Pinterest where vast majority users are women.

Here’s the Obama’s family chili recipe:

Obama Family Chili recipe

Ingredients
1 large onion, chopped
1 green pepper, chopped
Several cloves of garlic, chopped
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 pound ground turkey or beef
1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
1/4 teaspoon ground oregano
1/4 teaspoon ground turmeric
1/4 teaspoon ground basil
1 tablespoon chili powder
3 tablespoons red wine vinegar
Several tomatoes, depending on size, chopped
1 can red kidney beans

Method
Saute onions, green pepper and garlic in olive oil until soft
Add ground meat and brown
Combine spices together into a mixture, then add to ground meat
Add red wine vinegar
Add tomatoes and let simmer, until tomatoes cook down
Add kidney beans and cook for a few more minutes
n Serve over white or brown rice. Garnish with grated cheddar cheese, onions and sour cream.

I may not agree with all his politics but his chili sounds good to me!

P.S.S.  As of March 27th, HUFFPOST shared Mitt Romney’s WIFE had a pinterest account!  Mitt Romney desperately needs the women’s vote.  Obama’s social media strategists are doing a good job!  Take note Republicans.

People on Pinterest are sharing images of very thin, bony and skinny models and support the messages of die-hard dieters. Due to this fact, Pinterest was facing the critics that they are promoting eating disorders which can cause different problems in our young generation such as emotional distress, disability, mental illness, disfigurement or even death. Because of these virtual images, our children are struggling for negative body image.

There are thousands of thin models images on the Pinterest which is encouraging the young women to lose weight. These photos painfully challenged many Pinterest users to lose weight.

This is not a healthy way; it’s a self-destructive way to go. These images are encouraging eating disorder and self-harm in young generation. That’s why this website has decided to ban the self-harming contents from its site.

What About Food-Pin-Hoarding?

I’m going way over the top here, but many people know that cupcakes, brownies and every fattening recipe on earth can be found on Pinterest.  Can all these Food-Pin-Hoarding recipes cause self-harm?  Food is the fastest-growing pinboard category.  According to current data from RJMETRICS Food is also the most likely category to be repinned, on average generating over 50% more re-pins than the next most repinned category.

I get that you may just not get it.  In technology it happens all the time.  And that’s OK.  Let me put it to you simply.

It’s FREE Advertising!!!

Plus, There’s probably someone in your life that will do it for you or help you out.  Pinterest assembles the like-minded people having the same interests.  People can have more targeted and valuable forms of advertising.

They are on Pinterest right now recommending products, services and even companies which they adore.  Are you on there to be recommended?  This is a great way to boost online sales.  More than 18 million people have joined this website in last 2 years.

Please note, and listen to me carefully (read me), once you begin to add your products on pinterest,  you must have edgy, fashionable, photos to represent your hammocks, air conditioners, home repairs, campaigns, etc.  The same icons will not work in this environment.  It’s not hard or expensive to do.

LOOKBOOKS – The New Storefront (but super edgy and profitable)

A LookBook is often used to sell clothes.  Grab photos to sell, create a blog and link them back to the store where you make a commission.

LookBooks are also used for Models.  However, on Pinterest there is endless opportunities for a LookBook.  It’s a little like a portfolio.   However, you can link items to your shopping cart.  But trust me the images have to be, in a word, worthy!  Or don’t bother.

Just to keep you up to date on Pinterest, we can now post our own photos on Pinterest!  Before it was considered anti-social.  It wasn’t supposed to be all about YOU.

Here’s where it becomes interesting.  Pinterest got rid of its “Avoid Self Promotion” from its five “Pin Etiquette” principles.  This was announced in a BLOG by founder Ben Silbermann on Friday.  Thanks WSJ for bringing this to my attention.

Just last week, Pinterest gave the following instruction to users:

Pinterest is designed to curate and share things you love. If there is a photo or project you’re proud of, pin away!  However, try not to use Pinterest PURELY as a tool for self-promotion.

That’s the premise of social media.  Who just wants to be sold to?

This will sure help protect everyone from the copyright issues.  If we post our own photos and graphics no infringements are being broken.

P.S.  I did look around pinterest to see if I could find any of my friends self-promoting themselves and I didn’t really see anything.  Maybe an occasional book promotion.  I posted a bunch of facebook sidebars (almost retro w/timelines out now) that was a fun crowd-sourcing job.  However, let’s check out a model self-promoting.  That’s more fun!

You may have heard PINTEREST updated their TERMS AND CONDITIONS. Check it out, read it, see if you go “OK. What’s the big deal.” Because that’s what I’ve been hearing in discussions regarding the update – especially where making money is concerned. In the email they sent to me and millions of others, here is their first point:

Our original Terms stated that by posting content to PINTEREST you grant Pinterest the right for (Pinterest?) to sell your content. Selling content was never our intention and we removed this from our updated Terms. – Pinterest

OK. So Pinterest can no longer sell our stuff? How does this change our lives?

PERHAPS:

1) It will not become etsy or any store with a built in shopping cart.
2) By the same premise they may take down the GIFTS TAB on Pinterest’s home page.
3) Could this mean no paid advertising on Pinterest?
4) Maybe Pinterest will stop making money of our posts using SLIMLINKS? ** (SEE UPDATE)

Love technology for pushing boundaries. I’m all for it. As long as they make the rules of engagement clear and legal.

Please don’t set up a playground that is illegal, immoral or unethical.
